Charlie's operation

Today, Wednesday 2 Feb, Charlie went in for her operation, thanks to wonderful support from people donating.  I couldn't have done this without you guys, so thank you so, so much.

This pic was in the car just before I dropped her off.

We called to find out how the operation went, and apparently, she's in recovery and is doing well.  However, the surgeon wanted to talk to us, so he's going to phone and give us whatever news there is.  I'm super worried. :/

Here she is last week playing with ice cubes in her water fountain. She LOVES them!

And here she is growling at a cat outside.  Good guard cat.

And this is why cats are annoying in bed - those are my hairties on the headboard, Charlie loves to eat them.  She'll even eat them off my wrist if she sees them!

Charlie is an artist!

So tonight Charlie and I did some painting tonight.  We're planning on selling the paintings on Trade Me to raise some more money for her operation.

My brother, Daniel, very nicely offered to come and help.  Thanks Daniel!

I'm going to be honest.  I'm NOT an artistic person.  Turns out, it's not a genetic thing, it's how you're raised, because Charlie isn't very artistic either.  In fact, she got more paint on the walls from shaking than she did from painting.

At first, she was not keen to paint.  She didn't really like her feet wet. We bought in some toys, which helped a little bit.

Charlie got pretty dirty.  We used non toxic paint, and gave her a bath afterwards to clean her off.

She then spent about 1/2 h in her cage cleaning herself.  She's still a little bit blue, but much happier!

Right, here are the final products!

Theses two are 45 x 36cm.

This little one is 17.5 x 22.5cm

I think she's done a pretty awesome job, even if they don't look like anything in particular!

Here she is, looking SUPER cute!  Look at those eyes! How can I NOT love someone so cute and smart?!

Hi, My name is Charlie

Charlie is 8 months old, and in November, did a big jump onto the bench...and slid off the other side.  She landed on her side, twisting her leg underneith her. At first, I thought she had broken her leg, but she got back up and walked on it (although with a limp). The next day she went to the vet, who gave her antiflammes and suggested rest.


A week later, she was still limping and went back for an xray.  She had developed a luxating patella - essentially, every time she walks, she dislocates her knee.  She also has shallow hip sockets, so the dislocated knee pulls her hip out too.  This causes her lots of pain and is horrible to watch.


Since then, she's lived in a cage to try to heal the trauma in her leg.  It's been 11 weeks now, and last night, we were told that she will have to get a $1500 operation to fix her leg.  She needs the op within the next 2-3 weeks, or it is likely that she will develop arthritis as she gets older.

I might be biased, but she's the cutest cat ever.
